postheadericon Advice to Authors

Advice to Authors: If you don't have anything nice to say about a comment, PLEASE ignore it.

I think this has been said quite frequently around the blogosphere due to all the drama happening around here. Anyhow, this is a really small thing but one that bothered me a bit. It is personal so that's why I thought I'd share it here on my personal blog. It's not meant as an attack or anything. This is just my way of expressing my concern.

Here's the deal:

Today I saw the new cover for Outpost by Ann Aguirre. I liked the cover, but I felt like it didn't have the impact that the mock-up had. So I tweeted a small tweet about it. I made the mistake of naming the author.

It was supposed to be a passing thought and nothing else.

However, Ann Aguirre replied and she told me that she disagreed with me. Here's where it starts bothering me. It's my opinion so I should be able to think whatever I want right? She even said I was entitled to it!

I went on to tell her why the first cover worked for me, NOTHING else. I DIDN'T think it was western at all. This is not supposed to be a mean spirited tweet. Just me saying here's why I liked it and that's it. I think her characters are strong and that's why the dagger works for it. I said that maybe I was wrong because she's the author, it's her work and she can think of them differently.

HOWEVER, she went on to tweet the following right after that. I'm saying seconds after it.

It is obviously directed towards me. Okay... So apparently now I'm telling her she shouldn't like her own cover? Ms. Aguirre, you are putting words in my mouth that I have NEVER uttered. I only said my opinion and thought you would ignore it, as most authors would. Why didn't you? I would have liked it better if you ignored me, as most authors are advised. I was NOT looking for trouble. My tweet was meant as a concluding one to stop the conversation, which I guess it did until you tweeted something about me. That tweet hurt me. It offended me as a reader and fan of yours. Enclave was a book that I absolutely adored and I was quick to add to my favorites. It pains me to see this because I respected you so much as an author. I'm sorry but I can't support your work anymore because I have been offended, as a reader.

And you know what? I NEVER said the new cover was ugly or that I disliked it. I only mentioned that the other was fitting. I still liked the new one very much because it fit the previous cover, but oh well, I guess you didn't read my tweets properly and acted on impulse.

Anyway, that is all. I'm moving on from this and looking for a different read in my future.

postheadericon New to my Lipstick Collection

This is kind of obvious with the blog title, but I love makeup! Anyhow, I thought I'd post about my newest lipsticks.

Most of these are Limited Edition because I figure if I'm going to spend $20+ on a lipstick, it better be rare! XD

First up was my first lipstick by Lancome. My wallet and heart hurt after I bought this baby, but thanks to that, I feel ok with buying more quality lipsticks. Yay?

Lancome Le French Touch Absolu Nu in Cotton Candy
Price: $35
Limited Edition

Lancome is currently my favorite High End makeup company. I really love their products. They suit me perfectly. Plus, their packaging is gorgeous!

MAC Viva Glam Nicki
Price: $14.50
Limited Edition

After I bought the Lancome lipstick, I decided to buy a MAC one because they're only $14.50. Also, 100% of the sales from this particular lipstick go to an AIDS foundation. My first lipstick was a bad batch (on the left). It had a really strong, awful smell. I had to contact MAC about this. The second one arrived and its smell is not strong. However, both these lipsticks have been "sweating" lately. I don't think MAC lipsticks are island heat resistant. :( This lipstick is gorgeous, but it is also very drying. I don't think I will be able to use it much.

Lancome L'Absolu Nu Replenishing & Enhancing Lipcolor in Rose Candy
Price: $29.50
Limited Edition

This one is gorgeous! I didn't buy it the first time I saw it and regretted it every single day. It sold out online and I thought it wouldn't be mine. However, I managed to find it at a single Lancome counter about a week ago. It was sold out in the others. I'm so glad that I could find it!

Lancome Rouge in Love Lipstick in Corail in Love
Price: $25

I was looking for Roses in Love and accidentally chose this one thinking it was that shade. However, I'm really happy that I bought it. It's a gorgeous color! I'll get Roses in Love next time. ;)

These are the newest additions to my lipstick collection, for now... It'll probably grow when the Summer Collections are released. Yay!

postheadericon Unofficial Reading Schedule

This is a list of books that I should read soon. Most of them (or all) will be review books. I need to read and review these soon!

postheadericon On Blogging

So I was thinking last night and I began to feel like people are taking my blog a little too seriously. Ok, so you all know I have been through some tough stuff these past few weeks. I, myself, have taken my blog a little too seriously as well. It was not until recently that I stopped and thought, "Hey this is just a hobby, I shouldn't stress over it so much". Well, this post here is to tell you that I am not a professional in anyway. My book "reviews" are not professional. I don't intend to make that my profession. I do them because I love reading and that's it. I don't aspire to go write some fancy review on the New York Times and whatnot. Seriously, I don't. If I aspire to something, it is to be a librarian. A children's/YA books librarian, to be exact. Yes, did you know that I can actually study that in college? I'd like to throw that out there to those who keep saying trash about the genres I enjoy. I read them because I love them AND I can end up helping kids in the future. :) I think I've made that clear countless times. Why do I point this out? Because I've noticed that some people in my college, to be exact, have been commenting about my "poor reviews". You know I do notice when you're familiar, right? It is very much noticeable, you know. Anyhow, that's it. I just blog for fun. But it hasn't been fun lately. In fact, I kind of cried a lot last night after receiving a bunch of negative comments about my Rant Video (on different places). I guess I'm not supposed to have an opinion, after all. Isn't Reading subjective though? I think I do have the right to rant when I DON'T enjoy a book or a genre. Or a literary movement, for that matter. So anyhow, this here post is to tell you that if you don't like the YA genre or any other genre I read and you still somehow lurk my blog and videos, please don't bother talking to me. You obviously don't respect my taste for books, and I find it rude to have to argue with anyone over something I do for fun-- especially on the internet.

Btw, I was channeling Kingsley in my Rant video. Look him up and you'll understand why I kept saying "Seriously" and such. I made that video for fun and it ended in something not fun.

postheadericon Welcome!

I just started this second blog as my personal blog. Basically, I'll write whatever's on my mind regarding different topics. I named it Beauty & Books because those are two things I'm passionate about at the moment. The beauty refers to make-up which I absolutely love collecting and using, of course. And well, books are self-explanatory considering I have a book blog, as well. Anyhow, I can't wait to share my thoughts!
